What happens to any money the film will make?
Any proceeds from the global distribution and presentation of Project Rebirth’s documentary film, and commercial use of its one-of-a-kind content, will be reinvested to endow a Project Rebirth Center for Victims of Traumatic Loss.
Are you a charity or a movie project?
Rebirth is a philanthropic enterprise rather than a “charity.” We invest our supporters’ resources to achieve goals that contribute to meeting urgent social needs and will make a lasting and increasing contribution in line with our stated mission. A “charity” takes funds and gives them away to those in need, Rebirth invests its donors’ support into a film that serves a number of historical and educational purposes, and then looks to leverage the commercial appeal of that film to re-invest in a Project Rebirth Center that both honors the victims and first responders that are the subject of our film, and provides improved resources to better deal with these groups in future disasters. We are a qualified 501 (C) (3) non-profit organization that strictly adheres to the highest standards of corporate governance and financial and operational transparency.
What makes time-lapse unique?
Time-lapse photography is a method of recording events over long periods of time that can later be played back in shorter periods of time. Instead of shooting film frame-by-frame as a continuous movie, our Project Rebirth cameras shoot a single frame of film every five minutes. Time-lapse cameras are expensive and difficult to maintain, and to our knowledge this is the most extensive time-lapse project in history.
How long will you be filming?
We plan to continue filming at the WTC site until the rebuilding is complete, which is currently expected to happen in 2015. Project Rebirth has budgeted to ensure that we can fulfill our commitment as the timing of the WTC rebuild is extended.
Will I be able to see your film in theaters or on TV, and when?
Our current plan is to release a feature length documentary well before the completion of the WTC site, and then explore the best ways to update our film as the rebuild is complete. Our subjects stories are so compelling and dramatic that our creative team will have a major challenge to edit the footage into a feature length piece. It is possible that subsequent features may be released following the initial documentary. We have not finalized plans for distribution of the film, but our intent is for it to reach the largest global audience possible. The more commercial success our film and related media achieves, the greater Rebirth’s ability will be to fully endow the Project Rebirth Center.
